The Stag at the Pool - story below

the town mouse and the country mouse

  • 12 by 19" 2 color screenprint
  • White and Silver on Black

The stag went to a pool to drink and caught sight of his beautiful antlers. He looked upon his reflection with pride. He then glimpsed a reflection of his legs and thought "if only my spindly legs were as fine as my magnificent antlers!" Just then, a pack of dogs were let loose and the stag ran as fast as he could to escape them. His legs bore him forth swiftly, but his antlers got caught in a tree. He tried to shake loose, but the dogs caught him. As he died, he thought "what a fool I was! The legs I despised served me well, while the antlers of which I was so proud have let me down!"

"What is worth most is often valued least."
